My apologies to the owners/operators of Don Pedro’s and Rockstar Bar.

May 11, 2008

This past weekend I visited two venues in Brooklyn that cater to the local punk music scene.

The Black Tie Party @ Rockstar Bar

First, Rockstar Bar on Friday night, in Williamsburg. We had Glassdoll, Tight Chocolate (Derek from The Dead Betties) , The Cordova Academy Glee Club (Jimmy from Weston) and our hosts for the evening, The Black Tie Party. All I can say, is that after a giant pixie stick of blue powdered sugar high, and a few Buds, the trophy ontop of the cigarette machine was too easy of a target. I don’t know what the trophy was for, and hope I wasn’t offending anyone with the photos I took of my friends vandalizing it. All of us who came out in the pouring rain, were treated to bleeding ears and extreme drunkenness. Thanks for letting us trash the joint! The cops were called, but that wasn’t me. The three girls who kept hitting their heads on the ground and stealing the mic to scream obscenities eventually got kicked out by the bouncer who came to “control the situation” at 2:30am, so that’s not too bad. What’s up with that mysterious band who got kicked out after only 1 song?

CPC Gangbangs @ Don Pedro’s

Anyway, Don Pedro’s is a similarly dank venue located on the south side in Bushwick. I like shooting here, it’s a simple venue with an expanse of brick walls, a stage and mexican food. I like to use this place to experiment with color, texture and motion blur (See more experimental photos here). Saturday night was perfect for just that. It Lives, The Apes, Golden Error and CPC Gangbangs graced us with what can only be described as punk mayhem in every sense. It seemed the club was too small to contain us, thus the broken bottles, overturned furniture and puddles of expectorant and beer. I was excited to spit on something, I haven’t done that in a while. I feel bad for whoever had to clean that up though. The Apes were awesome, and the whole show was amazing actually. An apology to the CPC Gangbangs is due. When I said “I have pictures of that guy’s dick!”, I was actually thinking of someone else. SORRY! The funny thing is, two other people said “me too!”. uh…

*here’s a nifty slideshow. 56 images from this weekend -plus- the freshkills show at don pedro’s on 04/09/08.
