The Last Shadow Puppets played at The Grand Ballroom on October 30th, 2008. An Arctic Monkeys side-project, Miles Kane and Alex Turner deliver really grandiose compositions with that British Rock swagger that we’ve all come to love. I quite enjoyed the songs actually. Fucked Up’s 12-Hour Show

On October 15th, 2008 the Canadian hardcore band Fucked Up played a 12-hour show on the Bowery. (Acually it was 11.5 hours and there was lots of dead time) Either way, the evening saw lots of celebrity appearances. Moby, J Mascis, The Melvins, Vampire Weekend, the singer from the Cro-Mags, The Jewish and many more. It was really sweaty in there. I was on the beat for Spin.com.

Belated Motorhead Photos

OMG, I know these are totally old news photos. But in case you missed it, HERE is where you can find the Motorhead photos from the weekend of September 21st, 2008. It was really the most fun you could possibly have, EVER! My BFF Jessica come out from Los Angeles, and we decided to make the scene at Roseland Ballroom, where Motorhead was headlining the Volcom 2008 Tour. Oh, did I mention the supporting acts were Valient Thorr (really fucking awesome hairy heavy shit) and Year Long Disaster (love those guys!). So, naturally, a party was in order. I wasn’t expecting what happened next… The next day we were treated to another show in Asbury Park, NJ. Thanks Keith Marlowe, Volcom’s rock photog extraordinaire, for taking us on a journey that will not soon be forgotten. Check out the video after the jump, that’s Valient Thorr backstage at The Stone Pony, celebrating the last show of the tour with a bottle of bubbly.

Here we have my favorite post-hardcore heavy hitters, Goes Cube, at an industrial park on an impromptu photo shoot. If you know whats good for you, you’ll check out one of their many upcoming shows, as it looks like they’ll be playing some shows during this year’s CMJ Music Marathon.

On August 28th, 2008 I attended a private tour of Fresh Kills Park (the landfill in Staten Island) with Freshkills (the band from Brooklyn). They were invited by the outreach team, who happen to be big fans. My favorite part, aside from seeing these guys in broad daylight before noon, was the merch swap. we got to take home freshkills coffee mugs! if you would like to know more about whats happening at the former landfill, you can visit the Fresh Kills Park website.

i’m not taking sides on this one

well that was fun. the booze cruise on August 29th had stalkers and the giraffes afloat the half-moon. rocks-off puts these shows on regularly, but this was the first one where i actually felt that we might have gone down with the ship! CRAZY! i won’t go into detail, but this one might be bigger than the oasis/blur rivalry of the 90’s. here’s a photo of everyone who played that night, one big happy family?

Look at that! On August 18th I made this portrait of Norton Records owners, husband and wife dynamic duo, BILLY AND MIRIAM, with their pooch Queenie! Here they are in front of their notorious vinyl collection. The image will appear in the September issue of Sweden’s Denimzine, Scandinavia’s biggest magazine for punk, rock and garage music, alongside an article by Emma Vikingskull. Need some reasons to visit nortonrecords.com? How about Mary Weiss, Link Wray, The Sonics and more rock n’ roll, surf, garage, rockabilly and girl group records than you can shake a stick at. Kicks indeed!!
